LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification.
LEED ND applies to new land development projects or redevelopment projects containing residential uses, nonresidential uses, or a mix. Projects can be at any stage of the development process, from conceptual planning to construction.
Credit categories (9+3): Integrative Process, Location and transportation, Materials and Resources, Water efficiency, Energy and atmosphere, Sustainable sites, Indoor environmental quality, Innovation, Regional priority credits; LEED ND additional credit categories: Smart location & linkage, Neighborhood pattern & design, Green infrastructure & buildings.
Criteria open for benchmarking. A certification process is charged according to a price-list and requires a registered assessor.
